Adjective-to-Adverb Conversion

Most adjectives become adverbs by adding -ly. Some change spelling, and a few are irregular.

AdjectiveAdverb
quickquickly
happyhappily (y → i)
gentlegently (drop e, add y)
goodwell (irregular)
fastfast (no change)

careful → carefully

easy → easily

He is a good singer → He sings well.

Adjective + -ly = adverb. Watch the spelling: y → i (happy → happily), and "good" → well.

Common mistake: "He sings good" → "He sings well." ("Good" is an adjective; "well" is the adverb.)
