Adjectives of Colour, Quality & Size
Adjectives describe nouns. They can tell the colour (red), the quality (good, beautiful), or the size (big, small).
| Type | Examples |
|---|---|
| Colour | red, blue, green, black |
| Quality | good, beautiful, clever, kind |
| Size | big, small, tall, short, long |
a red car (colour)
a clever student (quality)
a tall building (size)
a big red ball (size + colour)
When you use more than one adjective, the usual order is size → quality → colour → noun: a big beautiful red flower.
Common mistake: Putting the adjective after the noun ("a car red"). In English the adjective comes before the noun: "a red car."
