Degrees of Adjectives (comparative & superlative)
Adjectives have three degrees: positive, comparative (compares two), and superlative (compares three or more).
| Positive | Comparative | Superlative |
|---|---|---|
| tall | taller | tallest |
| big | bigger | biggest |
| beautiful | more beautiful | most beautiful |
| good | better | best (irregular) |
Ali is taller than Sara. (comparative — two)
This is the tallest building. (superlative — all)
Short words add -er/-est; long words use more/most. Use than with comparatives and the with superlatives.
Common mistake: "more taller" or "most tallest" (double comparison). Use only one: taller, tallest.
