Kinds of Sentences (statement / question / command / exclamation)
There are four kinds of sentences, each with its own purpose and end mark.
| Kind | Purpose | Example | Ends with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Declarative | states a fact | I am happy. | . |
| Interrogative | asks a question | Are you happy? | ? |
| Imperative | gives a command | Be happy! | . / ! |
| Exclamatory | shows strong feeling | How happy I am! | ! |
Match the end mark to the kind: statement (.), question (?), exclamation (!).
Common mistake: Ending a question with a full stop. Questions always end with a question mark (?).
