Modals: Must / Mustn't — Rules
Must shows a strong rule or necessity. Mustn't means something is not allowed (forbidden).
Form: Subject + must / mustn't + base verb.
You must wear shoes in school.
You must stop at a red light.
You mustn't run in the class.
Drivers must wear a seatbelt.
must = you have to (a rule). mustn't = it is forbidden. Both are stronger than should.
Common mistake: Confusing mustn't (forbidden) with don't have to (not necessary). "You mustn't smoke" = forbidden; "You don't have to come" = it's optional.
✏️ Test Yourself
1. You ___ wear a seatbelt.
2. You ___ smoke here.
3. Students ___ do their homework.
4. You ___ cheat in the exam.
