Past Simple
The past simple describes finished actions in the past. Regular verbs add -ed; many common verbs are irregular.
| Now | Past |
|---|---|
| play | played |
| watch | watched |
| study | studied |
| go (irregular) | went |
| eat (irregular) | ate |
For negatives and questions, use did + base verb: - I didn't go. / Did you go?
I walked to school yesterday.
She went home early.
They didn't come.
After did/didn't, the main verb returns to its base form: "Did you go?" not "Did you went?"
Common mistake: Using past form after "did" ("Did she went?"). Correct: "Did she go?"
✏️ Test Yourself
1. play
2. study
3. go
4. ___ you eat? (base after did)
