Prepositions of Time
Prepositions of time say when something happens. The three main ones are at, on, in.
| Preposition | Use | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| at | clock times, points of time | at 5 o'clock, at night, at noon |
| on | days and dates | on Monday, on 5th May, on my birthday |
| in | months, years, seasons, long periods | in June, in 2026, in winter, in the morning |
The class starts at 9 o'clock.
We have a test on Friday.
It rains in July.
Think of size: at = a small point of time, on = a single day, in = a long period.
Common mistake: "in Monday" or "at June." Use on for days (on Monday) and in for months (in June).
