Present Simple of "To Be"
The present form of "to be" — am / is / are — describes things that are true now.
| Subject | Present | Example |
|---|---|---|
| I | am | I am at home. |
| He / She / It | is | He is busy. |
| You / We / They | are | They are here. |
Negative: add not → I am not, he isn't, they aren't. Question: put be first → Are you ready? Is she here?
Use the short forms in speaking: I'm, he's, she's, it's, we're, they're.
Common mistake: "He are" / "They is." Match the subject: I → am, he/she/it → is, you/we/they → are.
