Pronunciation Correction
Some English sounds are tricky for new speakers. Here are common ones to practise carefully.
| Sound | Example words | How to make it |
|---|---|---|
| /th/ | think, this | put your tongue between your teeth |
| /v/ | very, van | bite your lower lip lightly |
| /p/ vs /f/ | pan / fan | /p/ uses two lips; /f/ uses lip + teeth |
| /sh/ | ship, she | round your lips and push air out |
think — sink (don't say "sink" for "think")
very — berry (don't say "berry" for "very")
Say the tricky word slowly five times, then use it in a sentence. Slow and correct beats fast and wrong.
Common mistake: Replacing /th/ with /t/ or /d/ (saying "tink" for "think"). Practise putting your tongue between your teeth.
✍️ Practice:
- think / sink
- very / berry
- pan / fan
- ship / sip
