Connected Speech & Linking Sounds
In natural speech, words link together — a final consonant joins the next word's vowel.
"an apple" sounds like a-napple
"turn off" sounds like tur-noff
"pick it up" sounds like pi-ki-tup
Native speakers link words instead of saying each one separately. Let the end of one word flow into the start of the next.
Common mistake: Saying every word separately with a pause. This sounds robotic — practise linking for natural, fluent speech.
✏️ Test Yourself
1. "look at it"
2. "pick it up"
3. "an orange"
4. "turn on"
