Singular & Plural Nouns
Singular means one; plural means more than one. For most nouns, add -s to make the plural.
| Rule | Singular → Plural |
|---|---|
| add -s (most) | book → books |
| ends in s, x, ch, sh → add -es | box → boxes, bus → buses |
| consonant + y → -ies | baby → babies |
| irregular (change form) | man → men, child → children, foot → feet |
one cat → three cats
one box → two boxes
one city → many cities
one child → two children
Most nouns just need -s. Learn the special ones (man/men, child/children, foot/feet, tooth/teeth) one by one.
Common mistake: Adding -s to irregular plurals ("childs," "mans"). The correct forms are children and men.
